He is the author of the best-selling, Hunting in Alaska: A Comprehensive Guide, How to catch Alaska's Trophy Sportfish as well as Fishing and Hunting Alaska on Dollars a Day, and is author, co-author and/or contributor to five other books. He is editor-in-chief of The Alaska Hunter, a publication that provides a comprehensive look at current Alaska hunting hotspots, budget hunting opportunities, hunt camps, guide reviews, the best do-it-yourself fly-out and road-accessible hunts, and inside information' on Alaska big game hunting. He also provides one-on-one consultation on hunting and fishing via his Alaska Hunter Information Service.

The outdoor media turns to Chris when they need expert advice on Alaska sportfishing. Chris has served as Alaska Editor for many national and regional magazines and newspapers. His byline has appeared in Safari, American Hunter, Sports Afield, Mule Deer, Petersens Hunting, Western Outdoors, Outdoor Life and many others. He has appeared on the front covers of 13 national and regional publications and have received recognition in numerous articles, and on radio talk shows and tv appearances. Chris' dedication to producing quality work has won him over 60 national and regional writing and photography awards. These include several first place awards for his books, which include Hunting in Alaska: A Comprehensive Guide.

There is a reason for this widespread exposure.

Far from being an 'armchair outdoor writer,' Chris spends about 150 days per year traveling throughout Alaska. Much of that time is spent personally researching various hunting areas and investigating tips and techniques that help hunters bag more game. He has hiked into volcanoes, rafted glacial rivers, climbed wilderness mountains and survived Alaska's worst weather to search out and experience the state's unique and undiscovered, as well as most popular, hunting opportunities. Chris'  photo file--which contains over 65,000 Alaska sportfishing and hunting transparencies-- is a testimonial to this continuous quest.

The Alaska Professional Hunters Association has honored Chris with an award for his continuous efforts in promoting Alaska hunting. In 1986, the Alaska Outdoor Council honored Chris as their conservationist-Sportswriter of the year.

When he isn't hunting some remote area of Alaska, he is in great demand for his hunting seminars and instructional classes. He is now entering his 22nd year of teaching the extremely popular 'Advanced Alaska Hunting Techniques', an intense, eight-hour seminar designed to help hunters increase their skills in Alaska big game hunting. Since 1984 he has been a featured speaker at the Great Alaska Sportsman Show, where hundreds of people fill the bleachers to hear his dynamic presentations. His hunting experience extends beyond Alaska. He has hunted in Russia, The Far East, and throughout the Lower 48.

While he prefers to indulge in remote, backpack hunts, Chris frequently participates in other types of hunts to ''learn whatever is necessary to increase my knowledge about big game species and how to hunt them, and pass this information on to my readers."

He is equally adept at calling moose from a boat in the river bottomlands of the Nowitna as he is chasing goats across alpine glaciers or stalking Alaska brown bear. He is a strong advocate of respecting the resource. Through his feature articles, journals, books, seminars, media reviews, personal consultation and workshops, Chris Batin has introduced the best of Alaska sport hunting to millions of people around the world. From the best possible do-it-yourself trips or one of his unpublished, secret hunting destinations, Chris can continue to provide you with the advice and information you need to know to make your Alaska hunting trip a success.
